wow, so let’s see….a bunch of stuff has happened since my last post. the juiciest item first that will require an update: i’m on hold for a national commercial. woot woot. this will be so clutch if i can shoot this…helps me maintain my SAG (union) benefits. score.
another reason why i was so busy was shooting and working my friend sasha freedman’s short film (sasha dp’d my bao video). i played a flight attendant (snapshot below) and we got to shoot on an airplane cabin set…so rad. the film is starring Jane Pickett and Mark Kelly, who are both amazingly talented. i will no doubt keep you posted on this one.
i also did a photoshoot for my friend Matt Pizzolo’s t-shirts that are coinciding with the release of his illustrated film (from a graphic novel) called Godkiller. my friend aubrie davis produced the photoshoot, and at the last minute one model dropped out, which made room for my friend taylor feldman to save the day. we shot out in Bombay Beach — a crazy dilapidated beach that looks post apocalyptic because of the abnormally high levels of salt. there are trailers that were abandoned and just left to deteriorate…so crazy looking and PERFECT for this shoot. taylor and i were sitting around waiting in the back of my car and what do you get with two actresses, extra time, good light, and a camera? well, you get photos. lots of them. but i’m only gonna include this one that came from my point and shoot.
it’s been a minute since i posted something new so i feel compelled to submit an entry. look at that. slave to you. how’d that fucking happen? look how much power you have over me.
anyway, i have been deliciously busy the last two weeks with a good number of auditions and callbacks to most of them. i guess i can’t complain about not having too many auditions because i get called back a lot. i’d rather have fewer auditions and a high callback ratio than a ton of auditions and a low callback ratio. it means my agents are doing a good job submitting me for the appropriate jobs for my type. AND that i’m doing well in the room too. so yay. high fives all around. i smell a job around the corner.
i am also meeting with a theatrical agent sometime in the next two weeks. this is an agent who i think will be a great match and we’ve been emailing to figure out a time to meet. i’m very eager to get back into the game theatrically (film and tv). ARGHHH I CAN’T WAIT. but let’s not get too desperate now…it always shows. chill the fuck out, patty.
actually…i’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. i tend to get really excited about things…ideas, possibilities, etc.. maybe i get a bit overzealous and scare people off a little. i dunno. but it’s ok…i’ve also experienced the magic of meeting the right people and sparks flare and big shit happens. i love that. so anyway…i’ll just continue being my excitable self thank you very much and with the right match, things will just GO.
luckily, i also get over shit fast when things don’t work out — it helps tremendously in this business. you’re rejected so much that you better be able to get over it fast, boy. my advice to any aspiring actors out there: get over shit. FAST. go to your audition and then forget about it. IMMEDIATELY. or else you’ll carry that into the next one and it’ll fuck your shit up and then you’ll hate yourself and then you won’t be able to stop thinking about it and it’ll fuck your shit up even MORE. it’s a vicious cycle, and so utterly pointless, so just stop it.
this is one seriously loosened bowel of written poo and i won’t torture you with much more. when there’s meatier topics, there will be more solidly formed poo. still talking blog here, people.
someone slap me now.
uh…and here’s a photo i posted on superfuture yesterday. woo.
if you watched my nerdy video blog here, then you heard me explain that for commercial auditions you’re given descriptions for “wardrobe,” which is how you’re supposed to dress for your character. for my US Bank callback yesterday the role was for “couple buying movie tickets” and the wardrobe was “hip casual.” sometimes the wardrobe description gets a little outta control in an attempt to get people looking a certain way. the funniest one i’ve gotten was something like “trendy, hip, sexy, cool…but not slutty.” hilarious that someone in either the ad company or casting made it a point to add “but not slutty,” and every actress called in was given the “don’t be slutty” memo by their agent. does this mean i can try to be slutty for every other audition? yesssssss…
my second audition yesterday was just “casual” so i replaced the shoes above (Vivienne Westwood Anglomania) with some Frye’s woven leather flats. i had to take the “hip” out of the equation (more or less). you should always consider who the client is as well. for my second “casual” audition, the client was KFC, so i knew right away that they wanted a super approachable, lifestyle kind of “casual.” always let your personality shine through of course.
my kohl’s audition and callback the other day asked for “fashionable, hip, casual, well put together, body conscious.” body conscious means they want to see your figure, which means don’t wear baggy, loose clothing. you have to wear something that is form fitting, but usually NOT SLUTTY either haha. i wore the outfit in this post here. my performance and the outfit was enough to get the callback, but i don’t think i’m ultimately the type they want for a client like kohl’s (we’ll see). an ad for kohl’s after Thanksgiving Sale is targeting suburban housewives. they’ll probably want all american but very attractive, and i’m not sure i fall into that category. for any actors out there, never let ANYTHING discourage you. there are just too many factors involved when people are casting parts. be yourself and you’ll book the right gigs for your type.
good to know: if your audition is for a client like Bud Light, or Captain Morgan’s and it says “body conscious,” then you can probably be a little slutty. you know, just fyi.
things are finally picking up. i got callbacks for both kohl’s and usbank, and then a third commercial audition today. feels good. will feel even better when i book one of these suckers. we’ll see.
my idea for the next project is starting to fill out a little. hehehe…it’s gonna be f*cking crazy!! maybe a little more satirical than just parody. oh and just wait until you hear who it’s of kekekke. to be continued…
other than that i’m just dicking around, making inappropriate jokes on twitter, making little to no sense 38% of the time, but having a grand ol’ time regardless. oh, and i’m constantly confused when i see things on twitter like messages from Deepak Chopra followed immediately by Snoop Dog. does. not. compute…
can we officially label this the most boring blog post eva?
WELL. normally i wouldn’t be the type to shoot a video about myself talking about myself. never. who does that? Ok, that’s a lie, but normally i at least wouldn’t think of making this type of video. i can’t stop imagining all the lonelies out there sending in tapes for The Real World. But i thought — damn — a hosting gig on a travel show (in TAIWAN!) could be exactly what I need to reconnect with my homeland! so i decided to see what would happen if i grabbed the Flip camera and set myself loose in the courtyard unsupervised.
Needless to say, I uncontrollably got wacky on that shizz. Who knows if Discovery folks will get my sense of humor, but I hope at least you do! Please watch it and please rate if you like it! If you don’t like it, let’s pretend it never happened. shhhhhh…
today was one of those days of runnin’ round — flexin’ that hustle muscle. i finally had a commercial audition, which is great…haven’t had one in weeks. and it seemed to go well! i’ll keep you posted about that.
i also had my first hate comment on youtube about my video. wow…sometimes people are just really aggro. i don’t get it. why waste that energy? if you don’t like something, don’t watch it. but some people like to hate i guess. but i’m not going to remove it. with all the good sometimes comes bad. this is inevitable. however, i will draw the line somewhere and if there is ever something that is absolutely disgustingly jarring to the soul, i will remove it. somethings are never meant to be spread. ever.
if ya’ll feel like going to my video on youtube and burying the guy’s ugly comment with nice happy comments about how much you laughed, those are the ones that really bring a huge smile to my face!
this summer i had the great pleasure of working with my friend and photographer, lee clower. lee and i met a few years ago to do a test shoot and enjoyed working with each other so much that it’s become an annual ritual. working with him is a testament to the importance of good chemistry between a photographer and his/her subject. with lee i feel 100% comfortable and trust him immensely, which allows me to tap into a part of me that is rarely revealed. it’s actually… meditative to a degree, and few words are even spoken while we shoot.
the result: me. uncensored. i leave you here with one from our recent shoot. i’ll post a gallery on the photo page soon…
i’m starting to see straight again, so i’ve begun to go through some of the behind the scenes footage i took along the way. there’s a lot of it, so i have some work ahead of me, but i’m going to try to post a new one every few days so keep checking back! there were actually so many moments that didn’t even get captured, but watching what i do have is so wild.
it kinda reminds me of summer camp, when they post up photographs on the last day and you think about the good times you just had and feel so goddamn sentimental and shizz. love it.
in this clip, watch as t-minus helps me record and i learn how to act like a better singer. check back fo moar!
